Statement of Purpose
Respected Officer,
‘’
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have
imagined.’’
–Henry David Thoreau.
I am XYZ Abc, son of Mr. Xyz Abc and Mrs. Xyz Sharma. We are permanent
residents of xyz, xyzi - 05, Sankhuwasabha. It is apparent from my academic
history that I am an above-average student. I completed my SEE from Shree xyzi
Secondary School with a GPA of 0.00 in
2018. I chose to study in the science stream for my 10(+2) in xyz Secondary
School and graduated with a GPA of 0.00
in the year 2021. After I made the decision to pursue my education in
Canada, I sat for an IELTS test and scored an overall of 6.5 (L:7.0, R: 7.0, Writing: 6.5, Speaking: 6.0). In the current
world, it seems that any problem in any field is solvable with the use of
computers. Engineers are able to build software systems that would be believed
to have be impossible just a decade ago. To be equipped with such skills to solve
seemingly impossible problems, I want to pursue my further education at Sault
College in Canada with a Computer Programming diploma.
When I was in fifth grade, computer science subject was added to my curriculum. My dad bought me a laptop
around the same time to expand my potential. That little gadget was able to
pique my curiosity like nothing else in this world. I would spend hours
fiddling around with different software that were installed. I was able to
understand my computer science curriculum in profound depth. A year after that,
we got an internet connection installed in our home. I was amazed to see my
laptop, all of a sudden, being a gateway to literally all the information
available in this world. I was now able to install new software to play with
and learn its inner workings. By googling, reading, and watching videos about
how different software work and how to get what I want done using them, I was
able to amass a decent knowledge of computer programs. When programming was
introduced to my school curriculum, I was instantly hooked to the idea of
writing programs to solve any kind of problem. It included QBASIC programming
and basic C programming, but I used the internet and tried to learn more. I
learned things like taking inputs from a user and displaying the computed
output, converting mathematical formulas to code representations, storing values
in memory, etc. Simultaneously, I was keeping up with the latest technological
innovations that were pioneering solutions in fields like health, education,
informatics, transportation, finance, self-driving cars, robotics, etc. which
were thought to be impossible. This inspired me to believe that programming is
a way to solve almost every problem in this world. I felt empowered that I
could learn to code and have the potential to bring a significant positive
change in the world.
My path for my future career was clear,
as I looked for options to pursue undergraduate education in computer
programming. I analyzed the course contents and career prospects of programming
courses, for example, Bachelor of Computer Science and Information Technology,
Bachelor of Software Engineering, and Bachelor of Computer Application, etc. in
various universities of Nepal such as Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University,
etc. It was saddening to learn that I couldn’t fix the technological
infrastructure of Nepal by studying in Nepal. Computer programming education is
out-of-date which has been considered standard in today’s digital world. Being
a developing country, Nepal is just starting to see a surplus rise in
digitization resulting in an unprecedented demand for programmers, but the
education system is excruciatingly slow to catch up with market demands.
Therefore, I believe the best course of action for me is to pursue my
undergraduate education abroad.
I also researched popular study
destinations for international students and shortlisted a few popular countries
like Australia, Canada, the USA, and the UK. Taking the cost of living,
tuition, safety, and atmosphere for international students into account, I
decided on Canada. Canada is host to a welcoming and diverse culture of
immigrants from all around the world. This helps to make students from any
country feel at home. Canada is ranked as one of the safest countries in the
world which made my parents confident that I would be safe staying far away
from home for a couple of years. Graduates with Canadian degrees are regarded
with great respect in my home country and many parts of the world.
Learning about the Canadian
education system and options for international students, I decided that
pursuing an undergraduate diploma would be the best choice since they are
comparatively affordable, very practical in nature, and updated frequently in
order to stay relevant in this fast-changing tech industry. I found the
Computer Programming diploma at Sault College to have the most pleasing course
contents. This course will teach me Python, Java, JavaScript, and C#
programming languages and which are high in demand in Nepal and will continue
to rise. It will equip me with skills to build complex database systems using
MySQL which will prove to be valuable in building backends with secure and
robust data storage. Due to a lack of this knowledge among Nepal’s IT
professionals, services that are newly digitalized face high downtime and
frequent breaches. Sault College, with its adequately-sized classrooms, highly
trained and experienced professors, and modern lab equipment, has consistently
succeeded in producing graduates that are able to secure their desired jobs
immediately upon graduation and later in their career climb to a higher
position in a major software company.
After I get the degree in my
arsenal, I will return back to Nepal. I will work as a software developer in a
major tech companies in Nepal such as Leapfrog Tech Nepal, Verisk Nepal,
Artificial Info Tech, Logpoint Nepal, CloudFactory, etc. These companies are
home to the most talented programmers in Nepal. Working with them, I will
accumulate some local experience to truly understand what changes I can bring
to the software development process in Nepalese companies by comparing it to
what I will be taught in Canada. I will work in this position for a few years
until I see myself fit to achieve my long-term goal i.e., to digitize the
agriculture industry of Nepal which is one of the most important factors contributing
to the economy of our country. It is no secret that Nepal has one of the
highest food production potentials and focusing and building on strengths is
how nations become successful. I will build a platform that will allow food
delivery directly from farmers to consumers. Avoiding the need for a middleman
like supermarkets, farmers will get all of the money the customer pays and
consumers will enjoy fresher and healthier food without having to pay a huge
surcharge to a middleman. Goods delivery in Nepal has gotten pretty good with
the recent rise in online shopping. I will leverage this in the agriculture
industry. Consumers will be able to order food from an app on their phone and
the software will match the order with a farmer that’s nearest to the customer.
Farmers will be able to solely focus on food production and need not worry
about the logistics required to get them to consumers. I will come up with
lucrative schemes like cash bonuses on sales, and farming equipment as awards
to lure farmers into the platform. After I have a good number of farmers on my
platform, customers will be able to get their goods quickly and delivery costs
will be lower since matching with a farmer that’s not far won’t be a hassle.
Thus, my app will be the go-to place to buy groceries for the majority of
Nepalese people as we offer a much better alternative than going to the
supermarket.
My goal to digitalize Nepal’s
agriculture industry and my emotional attachment to my family will keep
calling me back to my home country. I won’t be able to stay away from my
parents and my little brothers for too long. I need to be there as a mentor for
my brothers as they grow up like my sister was there for me. Furthermore, I
will have to look after my parent’s properties and assets when they become
unable.
My parents fully support my endeavour and are happy to sponsor my study in Canada. I am grateful that my parents are
financially strong enough to let me pursue my education in Canada. They have a
combined annual income of CAD35,275.65.
They own a total property worth CAD
401,080.41. To ensure that I won’t face any financial issues they have
taken out an education loan of CAD
41,080.41 from Prabhu Bank Limited. It is a big dream of mine to turn their
huge investment into being able to achieve my goal in my home country.
I would like to thank you will all
my heart for reviewing my application for a study permit. My only intention to go
to Canada is to graduate with a Computer Programming diploma from Sault
College. I am aware of all the rules and regulations that I would be required
to follow in Canada. I wish to hear a positive response from you soon.
Yours
Sincerely,
Xyz
